Staying Alive
An easy way to find defibrillators

Did you know ? For effective heart massage, the Bee Gees song Stayin ’Alive has the perfect beat. You should know that already, since there is a super comprehensive article on cardiopulmonary resuscitation on this site. You have not seen it ? Go read it, and come back here after.

It's okay ? Let's get started.

Beyond being a great song from the 70s, Staying Alive is also an app that can save lives. Available on iOS and Android, it was designed by AEDMAP, a company responsible for mapping and tracking defibrillators, to help locate the nearest defibrillators. Accessible to all, the app thus makes it possible to come to the aid of a person who would have a cardiac arrest, while waiting for help, because each minute that passes after a cardiac arrest decreases the victim's chances of survival. by 10%.

At the time of writing this article, 219,352 defibrillators have been registered in France. If each user can find them on his application, he can also add those that are not yet referenced.

That was his original function. For a few years now, it has also been possible to register as a citizen rescuer - or Good Samaritan - on the app. What is it about ? When rescuers receive an alert about a cardiac arrest victim, the app allows them to geolocate citizen rescuers who are nearby and who may be able to provide assistance, while they wait for them to arrive. The Good Samaritans are then notified on their smartphone. If one of them accepts the mission, the emergency services call him afterwards and guide him by phone on what to do.

Can anyone register as a Good Samaritan?
Yes. If you provide proof of first aid diploma or a certificate of training in life-saving skills when you register, the emergency services will guide you to perform the cardiac massage on the victim. In case you are not trained, these will help you find and use the closest defibrillator to you.

Would you like more information? Go to the site of the firefighters of France, where the whole procedure is very well explained.
